Robert Hunter
ARTIST STATEMENT
My prints, and artist books generally contain several elements that ask the viewer to question the context of their combined meaning. The juxta positioning of these pictorial components hopefully provide the viewer with some surprise and mystery. I want a certain ambiguity to be present so that the viewer will be encouraged to think about the possible narratives. My intention generally, is to pose questions that inhabit the gap between the meaning of symbols and the content of perception. The relatively small size invites the viewer to come closer and enjoy the always enigmatic circumstance of metaphor and meaning. I use computer technology and digital software to create my images. Digital Imaging provides tools to modulate color, to create texture, to change size and placement, and provides transparency control that are nonexistent in any other print process. I take full advantage of digital layering and my work generally contains very dense and rich surfaces. My images are printed using archival pigment inks on Epson Hot Press cotton rag paper and are generally produced in an edition of ten prints.
