Susan Talbot Hoffman
ARTIST STATEMENT
Susan Talbot Hoffmann began taking art classes at Nicholls State University, in Thibodaux, as therapy following treatment for a brain tumor. Loving the art course work, she accumulated the credits necessary to receive a B.A. in Art during the ensuing six years, graduating in May of 1999. Susan has since had work accepted into local, state, national and international juried art shows in the areas of drawing, painting, design, sculpture and especially printmaking, receiving awards for the Kyoto gardens she studied earlier in her science-based career. She has since represented Louisiana with her etchings of cypress swamps, crab boils and plantation homes in many professionally juried shows. She has been elected to membership in the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in 2013.
The beauty of New Orleans Garden District stands as a testimony to the American dream. Stylistically the images of these grand homes is intaglio etched and printed using colored inks. They are then embossed manually in patterns representing the forms in the ironwork balconies of this area. These “watermarks” are my own personal method of expression and are distinctive of my intaglio artwork.
