ARTIST STATEMENT

I react to my direct experiences and environment. Whether it is a crack in a sidewalk as I walk Philadelphia, a city scape from my window or an Icelandic landscape while traveling. I am compelled to get it down in some way either as a drawing, a painting, or a print. I believe it is important to explore different techniques to push the envelope as much as I can to achieve an exciting image.

BIO

Ms. Alter re-entered the art world in 2004 after a long and successful career in Information Technology. She received a BA in Art Education from Glassboro State College, now Rowan University, in 1970 and taught art in the Cherry Hill School System for two years. From 1970 to 1976 she was a productive artist showing locally. Later Ms. Alter continued to work at developing her painting skills and techniques, albeit at a slower pace, while pursuing a career in the corporate world. Now retired, Ms. Alter works as a fulltime artist.

Recent showings include Davinci Art Alliance – two woman show, Montgomery County College, Abington Art Center Juried Exhibition, Bryn Mawr Hospital International ” Art Ability” exhibition, “Art Ability “satellite exhibitions at the Penn Trust Corporate Center, Moss Rehab “All About Art” exhibition, Markeim Art Center Haddonfield, NJ, Old City Jewish Art Center Philadelphia, Artist Equity Select Exhibition in Trappe, PA, Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Ambre Studio in Bethlehem, PA, Rosemont College, Villanova University, the Philadelphia Sketch and Plastics Clubs, and The Free Library of Philadelphia.

Awards include: second place for works on canvas “All About Art” at Moss Rehab Hospital 2011 and award for excellence 2012; Honorable mention 2006, Michael Lusachin Award in 2008 and the Stella Drabkin First Award in 2012 from the American Color Print Society 2008; second place from Ambre Studio for “Lacquer and Gold – Asian Esthetics” 2007.

Her work is included in the permanent collections at the main branch of The Free Library of Philadelphia and Cooper Medical Center as well as several private collections. Professional associations include the Cheltenham Printmakers Guild, American Color Print Society and Artist Equity.
