Art Brener

ARTIST STATEMENT

Screen printing is often thought of as an exacting medium, built with stencils or photographic screens that contain sharp lines, hard edges and tight registration.  Lately, I’ve been creating images that do not appear to be screen prints.  By working directly on the screen with ink and a squeegee, I can freely explore the random interplay of transparent color on transparent color, creating an exciting visual with a painterly quality not usually seen in the screen print medium.  The result of this approach is a series of prints that belong together, but are uniquely different, in a variable edition of abstract expressionist works.
